What is Minecraft? (Part 2 of 2)

Ok continuing from my last post explaining the specific details such as who made it, and other versions on other systems. But in this part I will be talking about what YOU do in the game. As of January 12, 2011 minecraft sold one-million copies of the game! As of November 7, 2011 the game sold 4-MILLION copies! It has a rating of 9.5/10!
OK.... so what? What's so good about this game?
When you but the game you can create a new world which is randomly generated with blocks from dirt to diamonds! There's 3 gamemodes.

  1. Survival
  2. Creative
  3. Hardcore
In the next post I will be talking about what those gamemodes are. The survival is the most popular and well known gamemode. It's most likely what you have seen on a youtube video. So the basic point is to survive, build what you want, and make your own goals.  I like this game because of it's originality, community, and amazing graphics! (Just kidding) The game has a bunch of 16 bit blocks which is why many people hate it. My favorite concept is redstone! I love it! It's like wiring but has so many amazing things you can do!

I may add a part 3 if you request it in the comments below!

What is Minecraft? (Part 1 of 2)

'Minecraft is a sandbox-building independent video game.....' It is written in java originally  by a Swedish person named Markus "Notch" Persson. Now ran by his company Mojang, who is currently working on making minecraft for iOS, and Xbox360 with kinect support! The game was released on November 7, 2011. It was inspired from games like Infiminer and Dwarf Fortress.

Mod of the Day (As voted for by lots of minecraft fans) Part 2 of 2

The next mod in this list is the Randomite Ore featured by the yogscast! This ore will turn into a random item in minecraft. It is just a simple mod and I really like  it with vanilla minecraft.

View the video I got info from below. Made by bluexephos also known as the yogscast. This took place at minecon.

Puzzle/Adventure/Survival map of the day

I have played a few puzzle and adventure maps in the last few day. Some were really good and original. My favorite adventure map is the skyblock challenges. You start off in a small island in the sky where theres NO blocks around and you have 1 block of ice, a bucket of lava and a few other items. Your supposed to make a cobblestone generator to get cobblestone and do as many challenges as you can. Far off in the distance probally about 200 blocks away you see a small island of sand a chest and a cactus. You should make a platform below it so when your on the sand it won't fall.To do this use a bucket of lava and pour it off the starting skyblock or on another platform. Wait about a minute then move the lava elsewhere and pour water down on that same spot. This should create lots of cobblestone all the way down to the void. You can then create multiple levels of ground from that. In the chest is some seeds a melon and 10 obsidian blocks. The melon you make into a seed the 10 obsidian you carefully place in a nether portal and to light it  you need to put lava all the way around it and hope that the lava will catch the bottom obsidian on fire.

Mod of the Day (As voted for by lots of minecraft fans) Part 1 of 2.

Voted by lots the number one mod is....The Millenaire mod. This mod features the ORIGINAL NPC's with AI (Artificial Intelligence)! The NPC's will mine, talk, trade, and much more. This is compatible with notch's NPC villages and was featured at minecon! For a complete list of what these NPC's can do click here.

The second best mod featured at Minecon is....... Mo' Creatures! This mod was voted for it's originality. Adds several new mobs the the game including sharks,  lions, scorpions, turtles, and LOADS more! For the official forum click here.
Kitties in Mo Creatures

The third best mod featured at Minecon is......Daftpvf's Mods This mod has leveling up*, trees that will fall down in one hit, floating ruins, slime boots and other helpful things such as a crystal wing that teleports you home!(See picture) *This is the original levels before notch added it to the real game. Official forum here.

The next and forth best mod and my personal favorite mod is........ Equivalent Exchange! This mod features 100's of new crafting recipes! The mod is meant to turn old boring materials into diamonds. 512 cobblestone is equal to one diamond. (Thats 8 stacks of cobblestone). First you make yourself a philosopher's stone like so:

Next you put a philosopher's stone in the crafting table with 8 stacks of cobblestone which should get you 64 redstone ore blocks. Next you put these back into the crafting table spaced out in four 16 mini stacks! This now gets you 16 iron ore. Once again divide it into four mini slots which will get you four gold. And with that four gold you will get 1 diamond! The next part of this mod is what I call the endgame stuff! It requires 36 diamonds per one dark matter. With the dark matter you can make tools and armor with super capabilities!

Texture Packs of The Day

8-Bit This is half as many pixels as minecraft. Even though it looks bad you can get greatly increased performance one mine craft.

The blocks look like they have depth rather than a flat boring texture. I really like this texture pack it makes the default one look bad.

256 bit texture pack. These texture packs look really nice and have more realism then any normal 16 bit block!

A fun texture pack. The default minecraft texture pack but with funny looking mobs!

Texture Packs

Most texture packs like all look really bad due to the pixels. If Minecraft runs really well on your computer you should get an HD texture pack. These texture packs have 128-512 pixels per block. This makes swords look straight and makes the game more realistic. If your computer runs really slow then you should get an 8-Bit texture pack. The blocks look really bad but the game will run faster. If your computer is too slow for an HD texture pack but works fine on normal Minecraft then you should get any texture pack that is the same amount of pixels as normal Minecraft. A simple youtube search will bring up a lot of texture packs. If thats not enough or you don't think theres any there for you then go on the Minecraft forums where you can find almost every themed texture pack you can think of.

I'm not too big into minecraft mods but there are a few that I have really enjoyed. I enjoyed the buildcraft mod, the equivalent exchange mod, and my favorite mod that I will always use is the TooManyItems mod.

This blog is about my favorite mods, texture packs and, maps. Please leave me a comment if you would like to see your map here. Give me the name, and a link to it on the minecraft forums I will do the rest.
